—Board Of Directors—
As a lifelong resident of Lassen County, Andrew brings a background in agriculture, soil sciences and lands management to the Trust. He is committed to enhancing and protecting our natural and cultural heritage of working landscapes and wild lands.
Jeff Fontana (Secretary)
Jeff is the public affairs officer for the Bureau of Land Management’s Northern California District which includes field offices in Susanville, Alturas, Cedarville, Redding, and Arcata.
He considers himself fortunate to have a position with diverse challenges while being based in beautiful northeast California. He holds a BA degree in journalism from the University of Nevada. Jeff’s familiarity with the Lassen Land and Trails Trust stretches back to the organization’s beginnings. As a journalist, he covered the events, including a plan to burn the Susanville Depot as a fire training exercise that led to formation of a citizen group to save the historic Depot. That group evolved into LLTT. Jeff, his wife, Carol, and son, Christian, reside in Susanville.
Tim Garrod (President)
Mr. Garrod has been a partner in owning and operating Bird Flat Ranch in Doyle for over thirty years. He has served our Lassen County farming and ranching community on the Honey Lake Resource Conservation Committee and most recently as their Chairman. The Trust’s work would benefit greatly from his agricultural experience and insights, as well as his experience in Resource Conservation.
Elizabeth Norton (Vice President)
Elizabeth Norton retired in January 2008 after a 31 year career
in federal government working for the US Department of Agriculture Forest Service. During her federal career she worked in Minnesota, Michigan, Wyoming, Vermont, Washington, DC, and California. She served as the Public Services Officer for the Lassen National Forest in Susanville for 15 years (1993-2008). In this position, Elizabeth secured millions of dollars in grant funds to support the Lassen’s recreation program and enhance customer service for the visiting public. Elizabeth holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and a master’s degree in Forest Management from Syracuse University. She resides in Susanville where she and her husband, Bob, manage a ranch. They enjoy wilderness hiking, camping, canoeing, skiing, and four-wheeling. Elizabeth is an active volunteer with the Recreation Outdoor Coalition promoting outdoor recreation in the North State.
The Trust’s mission is something Peter believes is important to this community. His experience as an attorney and outdoorsman brings great skills and experience to the Board and its work. Having served the community in so many ways, the Trust is honored to have Peter choose to dedicate time, energy and knowledge to the Trust’s work.
His admiration for the positive influence the Trust has had on the quality of life in northeastern California led Paul to serving on the Board. He has lived and worked in Lassen and Modoc for most of his life and welcomes this opportunity to give something back to the area and its citizens. As a biologist and botanist, Paul served as BLM Field Office Fire Management Officer in Alturas and then as District Manager giving him a broad experience in many of the issues which impact and present challenges in the Trusts work.
Having enjoyed the Bizz Johnson and Susanville Ranch Park trails for years, Al wanted to help support our region’s trail system and felt he could bring a new perspective to the Board of Directors. As a retired District Ranger with Lassen National Forest, Al brings both natural and recreational resource management skills nad experience, as well as general management skills, including personnel and budget considerations.
